Healthy Club Policy
1. SMOKING
Hensman Park Tennis Club recognises that smoking and passive smoking are hazardous to health. We will ensure a smoke free environment by:
¨ Ensuring all areas of the club, including the change rooms, offices, the bar, the hall, the kitchen, and all club functions are smoke free.
¨ Not selling tobacco products on the premises.
¨ Prominently displaying non-smoking signage.
¨ Prominently displaying smoke free policy.
2. ALCOHOL
Hensman Park Tennis Club will promote the responsible adult use of alcohol by:
¨ Abiding by the liquor licensing act.
¨ Discouraging excessive or rapid consumption of alcohol eg. happy hours, drinking competitions.
¨ Ensuring alcohol is not served to any person who is intoxicated or under the age of 18 years.
¨ Promoting lower pricing on low and non-alcoholic drinks and providing free unbottled water & ice.
¨ Providing bar snacks free of charge.
¨ Promoting responsible server training for volunteers who serve alcoholic drinks.
¨ Prominently displaying safe alcohol serving policy.
3. OTHER DRUGS
¨ The use of illicit drugs and performance enhancing drugs is not permitted by any Hensman Park Tennis Club member or patron.
4. SUN PROTECTION
Hensman Park Tennis Club will take all reasonable steps to address sun safe practices by, where possible:
¨ Scheduling activities outside the hours of 10.00am to 3.00pm eg. Night tennis, twilight tennis.
¨ Abiding by 2003/04 Tennis West Player Handbook:
- Rule 4.12 HEAT RULE: If the forecast temperature for Perth as announced by ABC 6WF during the 7:00am news is 37 degrees or above, all Tennis League matches for that day shall be cancelled. If during the match the temperature rises at the Club to 37 or above all play shall cease (no discretion permitted for play to continue).
¨ Making maximum usage of existing shade facilities.
¨ Following the Cancer Foundation of Western Australia guidelines for SunSmart clothing, use of sunscreen, wearing of hats.
¨ Encouraging players to protect their eyes by wearing sunglasses that meet Australian Standards.
¨ Making available SPF 15+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen in ready use dispensers at the match office.
¨ Prominently displaying sun protection policy.
5. SPORT SAFETY
Hensman Park Tennis Club will encourage all members to adopt practices that seek to prevent injury by:
¨ Promoting the use of protective equipment including suitable clothing and footwear.
¨ Providing safe playing surfaces which are regularly inspected, free unbottled water (drink fountains) and first aid equipment at all training sessions and competition matches.
¨ Encouraging adequate public liability and player insurance of all members.
6. HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES
Hensman Park Tennis Club recognises the importance of good nutrition for sports performance by:
¨ Ensuring when food is provided, healthy alternatives are available eg. Salads with Sausage Sizzle.
¨ Displaying information on good nutrition and sports performance eg. pamphlets.
Adult players, coaches and club members are expected to set appropriate examples and act as role models for junior club members.
The club will make information available to club members and families to promote healthy lifestyles.
Breaches of the policy will be addressed through the Hensman Park Tennis Club Board of Directors.

7. SMOKE FREE POLICY
The Hensman Park Tennis Club recognises that passive smoking is hazardous to health and that non-smokers should be protected from the involuntary inhalation of tobacco smoke.
Accordingly, the following policy devised by Hensman Park Tennis Club applies to all venues and functions. This policy applies to all members and visitors of the Hensman Park Tennis Club.
1. Smoking is prohibited within all areas of the club, including the bar.
2. All functions held at Hensman Park Tennis Club will be smoke free and no ashtrays will be placed anywhere in the building.
3. No cigarettes will be sold on the premises.
4. Appropriate non-smoking signage will be displayed within the Club.
5. This policy will be actively promoted in club newsletters and notice boards.
6. Coaches and board members are encouraged to act as positive role models for the smoke free message, particularly whilst with juniors.
